What we’re about

Congratulations, you’ve found us! The most active Meetup social group in Santa Barbara! Established in April 2021, we’ve been steadily growing and evolving to fill the social void of pandemic times.

It’s hard to make friends as an adult. It’s even harder when we’re two years into a pandemic and the idea of letting new people into your life adds an extra layer of anxiety fear.

Well, fear no more (I mean, fear a little bit, the pandemic isn’t quite over)--we’re here to answer your social prayers. We are the Santa Barbara & Goleta 20's and 30's Meet’em Ups! The age is a suggestion, but the requirement is you meet up ready to make some excellent memories and hopefully a few friends along the way.

The four admins schedule a variety of events. Like hiking? We got you. Enjoy food? Who doesn’t! Want to chill at the beach? Us too! Comedy your thing? We both watch and perform, depending on the day! Single and ready to mingle? Let’s chat! We have events for all interests and experience levels. No pressure, low key to high energy, and tons of fun.

This group was started by our founder when he moved to SB in a pandemic and wanted to get out of the house. He had no idea it would grow to the extensive group it is today, and that we’d all make lifelong friends in the process. Now we’re a 500+ strong with multiple circles of friends making up our overall group.

Join us! We’re not a cult… we promise ;)

Do you have an idea for an awesome event? Post it in the comments below! We only ask that if something comes up and you are unable to make it, PLEASE update your RSVP (or give any other notification). Three no-shows risks an expulsion from the group :(

While this group is for everyone, the group admins reserve the right to remove participants from events and the group for any actions / behavior that is deemed unbecoming.

What the Group Will Do for You

The purpose of our events is to give you the opportunity to make new friends while enjoying all that Santa Barbara has to offer! If your goal is to expand your social circle, being part of our group can be a life-changing experience.

What You Can Do for the Group

Bring your fun-loving, healthy attitude. Be committed to showing up when you RSVP and be kind and respectful to other members. We require that your profile includes a clear photo of yourself so others can identify you at our events. Your profile should include your “preferred name” that you use to introduce yourself at events. If you have a common first name, you may find it helpful to include a last initial or last name.

Terms of Service

By accessing and using the service of the Meetup platform, entering your RSVP, and continuing to attend our events, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.

Disclaimer

In no event will anyone be liable to any party for any direct, indirect, consequential, or other damages arising from attending an event. Attendance is at your own risk. The organizer, co-organizer, host, and Meetup, are not responsible for loss, damage, theft, injury to oneself or equipment, allergic reactions, speeding/parking/red light tickets, or accidents with your vehicle.

Membership Fee

FREE! Our group is free to join and there are no membership dues. Our organizers/hosts are volunteers who do not receive any sort of personal or financial benefit from events.

Guest Policy

We’d love to meet your friend, co-worker, or significant other. However, we prefer that they get their own Meetup account and register for the event in order to attend especially for wait-listed events. We do not allow guests or “plus 1’s” to capped events. This policy helps us track membership, attendance and get an accurate headcount for events..

RSVP Etiquette

In order for our hosts and venues to plan for successful events, we need accurate headcounts. Your cooperation with RSVP policies is critical to keeping our Meetup events FREE and accessible to all members. If you do not comply with RSVP etiquette, the organizers have discretion to remove you from the group.

Waitlists - Some events e.g. trivia team nights and comedy shows have strict capacity limits that we set in advance. If you are waitlisted, don’t despair, there is a good chance you will eventually move up the queue, please turn on your Meetup app notifications and continue checking your status leading up to the event.

Advance Cancellations - (24 hours+) If your plans change and you are no longer able to attend an event you had registered for, please update your RSVP as soon as possible to open your seat for someone else. If you frequently RSVP and then cancel, the organizers have discretion to send you warning notification(s) and/or remove you from the group entirely.
Last Minute Cancellations - (less than 24 hours) We do not tolerate repeat last minute cancellations unless there is a true emergency e.g. hospitalization or car accident that you communicate to us. If you cancel at the last minute, the organizers have discretion to send you warning notification(s) and/or remove you from the group entirely.

No-Shows - We do not tolerate repeat “No-Shows” unless there is an emergency. If you are a “No-Show”, the organizers have discretion to send you warning notification(s) and/or remove you from the group entirely.

Please understand that repeat no-shows and last-minute cancellations, especially to wait-listed events, can result in a temporary or permanent ban from the group, at the admins' discretion.

Code of Conduct:
As part of SB 20’s/30’s please treat each other with kindness and respect and represent us well in the community. While the organizers can’t control everything that takes place in and out of Meetups, they do have discretion to remove members from the group at any time if they feel any of the following are violated:

Inappropriate Communication - Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes, language, and/or images. Personal insults or commentary, including but not limited to those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability, weight, or appearance. Defamatory statements of any kind.

Sexual Harrassment - Including but not limited to; touching another member without consent or after a request to stop, unwelcome sexual attention, sexualized comments or jokes, unwelcome sexual advances, continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease, and/or off-color remarks.

Pick-Up or seduction techniques, or wingperson tactics - The intent of this group is for general friendship and socializing. We do not tolerate members who appear to be strategically utilizing our events for “pick-up” purposes. https://help.meetup.c...

Gossip/Drama - Please don’t go out of your way to create gossip, drama or conflict amongst members.

Drinking/Alcohol - Our organizers assume no liability and cannot be responsible for your actions. By attending our events you agree to drink responsibly and plan for a safe ride home. Please be courteous to venue staff and patrons and represent our group well.

Any behavior that we deem “unbecoming” - When you’re at an SB 20’s/30’s Social event, you’re representing us in the community! Please be a good person and represent us well!

Reporting -
As volunteer organizers/hosts we cannot control everything that happens at public meetup events, but we do our best to help everyone have a good experience. If someone makes you or anyone else at the event feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, or unsafe please report it to one of our organizers/hosts as soon as possible. Within reason we will do what we can to diffuse and/or address the issue as discreetly as possible.

Physical Events (Hiking, Kayaking, Sports, Etc..)
Our hosts/organizers are not professional guides, mountaineers, experts, etc… We are volunteers who do not receive any personal or financial benefit from these events. We do our best to describe what to expect at the event but you assume all risk and liability. By participating in an activity you acknowledge that you're of good physical standing and willing to risk the inherent dangers of the activity you are participating in.

Photography and Media
At our events, group photo opps happen! By attending you understand that photos may be taken and posted on our platforms. I understand that at events and related activities I may be photographed. I agree to allow my photo, video and or film likeness to be used.

Please note: these are subject to change at the admins' discretion.
