What we’re about
We organize programs and events for the Scarborough Land Trust (SLT), a private, non-profit, community-based organization focused on conserving and stewarding land for people and wildlife—forever. SLT has conserved over 1600 acres in Scarborough; the natural and agricultural resources, scenic vistas, public access, wildlife habitat, and historical significance offer unique value to the broader community. SLT owns and maintains nine public preserves with parking and trails, open every day of the year. SLT’s mission also includes connecting people to these lands and each other through our programs, events, and volunteer opportunities. See some examples here:
https://scarboroughlandtrust.org/events/.
If you appreciate any of the following, we encourage you to join us:
- Nature and the outdoors
- Open spaces and walking trails
- Learning about and experiencing local woods, waterways, and wildlife
- All-season group walks/hikes
- Educational events related to ecology, the environment and farming
- Forest bathing
- Socializing outdoors
- Family-friendly outdoor activities
We intend to post SLT programs and events here that would be of interest to MeetUp members. Many of our programs are free, but a ticket fee may be associated with registering for certain events.
By joining this group, you are not obligated to donate time or money to SLT. SLT is a 501(c)3 organization, so if you visit our preserves or participate in our programs, supporting the cause is entirely up to you, and much appreciated by us!

See all- Women's WalkThe Meadows, Scarborough, ME
Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves.
This walk will be 3-4 miles (~90 mins) but at a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife (migrating birds, etc). Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches, wood crossings for boggy areas, and some uneven ground (rocks, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always, we recommend wearing long pants, comfortable footwear, and sunscreen as appropriate.
Parking will be at The Meadows (a campus of Piper Shores, off Rte. 77). From Black point Road, The Meadows will be on the left. Once you turn into The Meadows, follow the main road until the end. There will be parking places and a kiosk indicating the trailhead.
Although most SLT properties are dog friendly, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event.
10 sign-up spots will be offered here, and additional ones will be available through https://www.meetup.com/scarborough-land-trust-nature-and-farm-events/events/302811689/. - Get Outside & Make Gen Z/Millennial Friends: Nature Walk then Dinner & Drinks!Fuller Farm Preserve, Scarborough, ME
