What weāre about
SOA hikes everywhere from cities to mountains to deserts. We go backpacking, biking, and climbing; ski and snowshoe, kayak, sail and swim, and in many other ways celebrate nature and the great outdoors.
While exploring the Pacific Northwest is thrilling and restorative, we care about our delicate environments and promote Leave-No-Trace principles and good trail etiquette.
To better protect ourselves from injuries and other life-threatening conditions, all members should take safety and preparedness seriously, carry the Ten Essentials, and be self reliant.
Check our calendar and join us on an upcoming adventure. We're eager to welcome new friends and hope to meet you in person soon.Ā
Your Organizer, Michael Songbird

Tips on preparing for a safe outing:
Before venturing into our state's amazing backcountry check theĀ Weather Forecast. During winter, spring, and early summer, check theĀ Avalanche Forecast.
If you're new to Washington state, be advised that Search and Rescue teams are busy year-round assisting lost, injured, and/or ill-equipped backcountry recreationists. You can increase your chances of a safe outing by equipping yourself with (and knowing how to use) theĀ Ten Essentials. TheĀ MountaineersĀ offer an excellent low-cost hands-on navigation training course which teaches backcountry map and compass use.
Your feedback is important and welcomed!
If you have any questions or comments about our group you're welcome to email the main organizer or post your question or comment on our group'sĀ Message Board. It is our Members and Organizers who make this group a great one so thank you for making it one of Seattle's best!

End your day around a beach bonfire, cooking your fresh catches and sharing stories under the stars. This trip promises both a bounty of seafood and unforgettable memories. šš¦š
Oregon Location
Why are we heading to Seaside, Oregon for this trip? Oregon has free fishing weekend on June 7th and June 8th. Unlike WA, Oregon free fishing weekend includes free shellfishing which means no license needed! Oregon also allows all shellfish at this time including razor clams, crabs, bay clams, chitons, limpets, and aquatic snails harvesting. Washington never allows harvesting of chitons, limpets, and aquatic snails. Also free fishing weekend means tons of fun free events we can go to during high tide.
Recommended Exotic Species to Target
You can get 10 of these in aggregate. They aren't available to harvest in WA so this is your chance to try them out.- Moon snail
- Periwinkle snail
- Triton snail
- Whelk snail
- Gumboot chiton
- Black leather chiton
- Owl Limpet
- Plate Limpet
- Shield Limpet

Camping refunds are available to all who drop before May 21st or find a replacement at any time.Parking and Vehicles
We can only take 2 vehicles into the park and there is an additional $7 cost for extra vehicles. The 8 maximum spots will be first come/pay first serve. RSVP for meetup doesn't get you a spot and only payment secures a spot.
Gas costs will be arranged with drivers. For food I prefer everyone try to contribute and share which saves the hassle of needing to calculate and share costs which will be a lot of work.Payment methods:

Biotoxin closures
Biotoxin closures are random and can happen at any time. There will be no refund for biotoxin closures. If there is one we will find another specie not impacted by it or find another activity. In addition there is always a risk that Oregon DOH doesn't catch biotoxins and you can be poisoned. By joining this meetup you accept this risk. This risk is also covered by the signup form which you will need to sign.Harvest Times
Low tide is around 6am on 6/7 and 6:30am on 6/8 so unfortunately we will need to wake up early. If you don't feel like getting up those mornings you can sleep in as long as you're not driving because we need drivers. Otherwise you'll need to agree to lend your car out to one of the people in the group who can drive. This is actually a blessing on Sunday because we will finish harvesting and cooking and eating before we checkout at 1pm.Regulations
