Sedona Red Rockers

There should be some fall colors on the Huckaby Trail and traffic has been pretty light so far in Sedona so hopefully there will be parking available but no guarantees. This is a moderate hike and about 2 hours and 15 minutes round trip. Hike at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety.

If you've never done this trail, you are in for a treat. This is a stunning hike through rock formations and a forest, alongside a creek. There are a couple of places where some rock scrambling is necessary. This trail is considered MODERATE. We will hike about 4 miles in and out and do about 300 feet in elevation. The trail begins at 6,350 feet.

There are 2 ways to access this trail, and we are doing so from the west end (Forest Road #237), off of AZ89A. The parking lot for this trail, on the west end, has very limited parking and the dirt road (1.8 miles) going there should be done in a high clearance vehicle, so we will meet at the very northern end of Oak Creek Vista parking area. We will need at least 4 high clearance vehicles to shuttle to the trail head. I will be bringing my Toyota Tundra, and that will accommodate 4, including myself. Not everyone needs to come in a high clearance vehicle, but if you have one, consider bringing it. Also, consider carpooling as this meeting area is about 45 – 60 minutes from Sedona, depending on traffic.

There are no bathrooms at this trailhead, but there are some at the meeting parking lot – Oak Creek Vista. Please allow plenty of time to get here and arrive early. We will leave promptly at 9:00 am.

The weather will be cool and sunny. Bring water and snacks.

Basecamp is Sedona Beer in West Sedona across the street from the Library. They have a huge outdoor area and about 10 beers to pick from. There is also a food truck available. Address is 70 Dry Creek Road, Sedona.
