What we’re about
The Sedona Senior Hiking Group is focused on those who want to get out on the trails and hike at a leisurely pace. We'll take plenty of breaks to take photos, catch our breath, converse, drink water, etc. on the hikes.
Our philosophy is that hiking in Sedona shouldn't be a race. It should be done at a comfortable pace (about 1 1/2 - 2 miles per hour) to be able to enjoy the incredible views of the red rocks.
The plan is to schedule 2 or 3 hikes each month in the Sedona/Village of Oak Creek area. The hikes will be rated Easy (like Fay Canyon) or Moderate (like Boynton Canyon). We'll be hiking the trails included in the Sedona Hiking Guide (available locally and on Amazon). We'll leave the Hard hikes (like Bear Mountain) to the younger crowd.
Leashed, well behaved dogs are always welcome to hike with us. So come join us for a nice morning hike.

See all- West Fork Trail RescheduledWest Fork Trailhead, Sedona, AZ
This is the rescheduled West Fork to take advantage of the Fall colors. Note the new date is Monday, October 28, 2024
The West Fork Trail is considered by many to be the most beautiful Sedona-area trail. And the third week of October is usually when there are some colorful leaves. It's a very busy time at West Fork so we'll plan to arrive at the parking area just after it opens at 7:00 AM.
Hiking Distance: I plan to hike 2.8 miles to a large overhang making the total hike some 5.6 miles.
Hiking Time: About 4 hours round trip
Trailhead Directions: We'll carpool from Uptown Sedona for this hike. From the "Y" roundabout, drive north on SR 89A to the first traffic light at Forest Road. Turn left onto Forest Road and then turn left at the second driveway where we will be meeting (see map). Meet at 6:30 am.
After we form carpools, we'll drive north on SR 89A about 10.5 miles to the West Fork Trail parking area. Again, this is a very popular time of year for the West Fork Trail so we'll try to arrive at the parking area just after it opens at 7:00 AM. It's expected to be about 45 degrees when we start, so a cool morning.
There are toilets at the parking area. This is a special fee area and costs $12 per car (for up to 5 occupants).
We'll be crossing the West Fork of Oak Creek on strategically located rocks 10 times on our way to the overhang so you may want to consider bringing your hiking poles to help keep your feet dry. Some photos from previous hikes are located here: https://greatsedonahikes.com/westfork/westfork.html
Please let me know if you plan to drive directly to the West Fork Trail parking area so we don't wait for you at the meeting place in Uptown Sedona.
See you on Monday October 28th!
