What we’re about

AUGUST 2024 UPDATE:
Due to Meetup's recent 50% increase in Organizer subscription pricing, we will be instituting a new dues requirement of $5/YEAR (not month) from members to help offset the costs of both managing our presence on this platform as well as the Zoom Pro subscription utilized for our twice-monthly virtual sharing and support sessions.
New members will receive a three-month trial to become active with the group and assess its suitability before this requirement goes into effect. The Organizers also reserve the right to waive dues under certain circumstances for members based on their group history (activity and duration) and leadership roles within the group.
Our group will not be using the Meetup pledge option, but instead will track dues payments offline. Payment methods will include cash, check, and payment platforms such as PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle - and will be communicated individually to each member in order to maintain privacy and security. We appreciate your understanding!

================================================================

This is a group for widowed people in the SF/Peninsula/South Bay areas of the San Francisco Bay Area (California). We have one essential goal: to connect widowed people with each other for social activities, sharing, and support. As part of our commitment to protecting the privacy of group members, we require verification of one's widowed status by asking new prospective members to provide either a link to their spouse/partner's obituary that mentions the surviving spouse, or - alternatively - a copy of spouse/partner's death certificate. We appreciate your understanding for everyone's benefit.

We are a local group of widows and widowers in the Bay Area who are looking to get together, both virtually and in person, to share with and support each other in a social atmosphere. We have regular Zoom sessions, dine out, go to movies, take walks, and enjoy so many other activities together. However, keep in mind that we are not health professionals, and do not give advice or offer any formal grief support, but simply relate our own personal experiences as we walk this part of the path on our respective journeys. We also attempt to share - but do not guarantee the effectiveness of - any resources that we have found helpful in our process. Furthermore, be notified that by joining this group, you are releasing the organizers from any liability, and committing to respecting each member's confidentiality, privacy, and trust in all communications and interactions.

It's important that we connect with like-minded people who can say "I get it", in order to make this journey that much more bearable! Come and be part of this special community of people who have lost a partner/spouse.

(NOTE: Please be aware that the Organizers reserve the right to remove any member at any time, especially for reasons such as too long a period of inactivity - including not visiting the group Meetup page periodically, failure to respond to profile questions or Organizer messages, not keeping your Meetup profile updated, or any inappropriate behavior toward or communication with other members.)
