What we’re about
We are the original free sailing Meetup group in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the most active. We don't operate a sailing business or promote the commercial interests of other sailors, and this NBS meetup is maintained by our dozen or so boat owners and the leadership team. You don't have to know how to sail to be part of the group. However, you do have to fulfill some basic requirements. Please be sure to do this or you may not be able to join or remain in the group.
(1) Sign-ups: RSVP only if you are confident you can make the sailing event. You can cancel up to 48 hrs prior to sailing, otherwise you may deprive others of a position and you may be removed from this group. We rely upon keeping boat owners and our members happy.
(2) Email: Once you RSVP for a sail, start checking your email for messages!
(3) Profile and Photo. Please answer the questions and upload a recognizable photo for viewing on a phone by the boat owner. Your whole body or face should almost fill the screen. Candidate profiles with non-human photos will be declined and you'll be asked to submit a new application.
Occasionally we’ll post local non-sailing marine events that may charge a small donation or fee such as sailing lectures, boat-building workshops, American Cetacean Society events, Marine Mammal Center events, Latitude 38 crew-list parties, and similar events.
We encourage you to sign up for the weekly Latitude 38 Sailing magazine email with great photos, racing and SF bay sailing activities, and more here.
There are many types of sailing with our boat owners, from racing to rafting parties and even delivery services out to the Farallon Islands. Check out the sailing video below, and this Pirate sail as typical examples: https://youtu.be/bJwXWlg9ybg

See all- SailGP- "A day at the Races" aboard Cetacea on Sunday, March 23!South Beach Harbor, San Francisco, CA
The SV-cutter Cetacea (latin, marine mammal-dolphins/whales), a beautiful, strong, and well-appointed 42' blue-water yacht with extensive operational and safety systems, invites a few crew aboard with a highly experienced captain and platonic-only water-sports enthusiast and science/technology entrepreneur.
Strong preference for adventurous crew, as can be seen in the various photo albums of crew on more than 150 no-cost personal sailing adventures the past 10 years. This racing viewing is for women that prefer to sail with other women; sorry guys but there is a big demand for female-only sailing that isn't being met!
A leg of the worldwide sailing championships for the SailGP F50 International Foiling Catamaran racers will be held in SF on March 22-23! Yes, SF hosts the USA venue for the international racing challenges around the world, and we'll hang out next to the racecourse like last year, only a few hundred feet away from the racers! We even appeared, for a brief moment, on international news, as can be seen in the photos of last year, yayyy!
See the SailGP website here:
See our last year's sailing event hereWeather dependent, we'll all wear a costume when visiting the racers or on streaming, since we'll be invited into the patrolled racing garage restricted zone! We may raise the spinnaker halyard swing for photos with the racers in the background racing or at the mooring! How cool is that?!
Please note that your page may indicate the event is full-- this just moves your RSVP to the waitlist until I select 6-9 experienced crew and newbie crew. I'll send an agenda with food, drink, clothing, meeting location, parking and more to the crew by Friday, March 21.
We'll cancel if rain is forecast, but previous years have been quite nice!
Please be sure to respond asap to my email to your meetup registered address or you'll be cast adrift in the "Not Going" landlubber zone of washed-up sailing regrets, har har :-)

Whether you're gearing up for spring racing, summer cruising, or just looking to get out on the water, this is the perfect place to meet fellow sailors, find crew, and make sailing connections.
Find a Boat, Find a Ride, Find Crew
Looking for crew for an upcoming race? Hoping to join a summer cruise? Just want to spend more time sailing on the Bay? Our Crew List Party is all about bringing sailors together—whether you own a boat or are looking to hop aboard.
This year the Bay View Boat Club will host the venue.
The Bay View Boat Club is at 489 Terry Francois Blvd, San Francisco on the waterfront in Mission Bay between Oracle Park and the Chase Center. Metered parking is available on the streets around the club and in the adjacent parking lot."They've held this event at a boat show booth the past covid years, and usually had around 200 people in attendance as a stand-alone event at a yacht club prior to covid years. Latitude 38 was established in 1980 with the first official Crew List party in 1983!
I've attended many such crew list parties in past, but I'm only posting this event for sailing interest and won't be attending this year. It's open to anyone interested in meeting other crew and boat captains.
