What we’re about

Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.

What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

NOTE: this is an 'as and when' one hour of silent writing (9-10am UK; 10-11am CET) before the regular 10am UK Sunday morning SU&W starts - that is, it is on when Dyi can make it (and not when Dyi can't make it). After a very brief introduction, you can check-in and check-out in the chat if you want to (or not) - there are no 'vocal introductions'. For the rest: write with your coffee & breakfast (or dinner) ready :). After this 60min session, you can hop onto/stay for the next SU&W session! (Note that the session after this one has various hosts, so always double check who the host is.) As always, arrive/leave when you need to.

ABOUT THE EVENT: Join for 90min of silent writing (starting 10am UK; 11hs CET). We have a check-in at the start and a check-out at the end. If you arrive after the introductions, just join us in the muted writing! If you need to take off earlier, that's fine too. Arrive/leave when you need to. (Hosts change for this SU&W, so make sure to use the link of this week's host!)

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.

If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom by reviewing the below tutorial:

Online co-working for writers around the world!
Join us for a period of focused writing from the comfort of your own home. All writers and all experience levels are welcome, and don’t worry; no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done.

What to Expect
We start promptly at 6:45 AM Pacific time (9:45 AM Eastern), with one of our team leading quick introductions. After this ends in 10-15 minutes, a timer starts for 1.5 hours of quiet & focused writing. Next we finish with a quick check-in to see how everyone's writing went. If you need to leave early, or if you're in the flow, no need to formally checkout. Some post in the chat how it went before heading out. No blame, no shame if it doesn't go well

Latecomers: After 10-15 minutes of Intros, we’re in our silent-writing mode. For security and focus for our participants, the meeting may be closed to further attendees. Please join us another day, during our introduction time (see schedule below). We wish you happy writing!

Help Your Host
Zoom Name: Use your preferred first name and a last initial.
Zoom Video: Turn on during intros and check-ins.
Meetup Name: Preferably use the same name as on Zoom.
