Let’s celebrate the New Year with a hike at Penwood State Park in Simsbury on Saturday, January 04 at 9:00AM. We’ll begin our 5 mile journey with a climb on the north bound blue blaze Metacomet Trail. After the initial climb, it will be about a 1.5 mile hike to Lake Louise. We can take a short break to walk the boardwalk and overlook the lake.
After departing Lake Louise we will take a gentle stroll around the backside of the lake before we take a sharp right turn and conquer a steep climb to a wonderful lookout overlooking downtown Simsbury and the Farmington River. From here Heublein Tower will be visible to the south. At the overlook, we will take a snack break to enjoy the view. Please bring a light lunch or snack with you and binoculars to take advantage of the wonderful view.
After departing the lookout, we will follow the orange then yellow blaze trails back to the parking lot. These two trails ride the ridge and have a wonderful western view the whole time. There will be another lookout at the midway point on the way back.
This is not a beginner hike and it will be a moderate pace hike. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, or a light lunch. This is an adult only hike so no individuals under the age of 18.
No dogs please.
Please arrive by 8:45AM as the hike will begin at 9 AM sharp.
Look forward to seeing everyone there. Message me if you have any questions.
