What we’re about
Looking for like-minded people to share conversations and fun times together. Must be single, politically progressive or liberal, (probably a Democrat but not necessarily,) open-minded and of a certain age (IYKYK)... but around 50+ or older would fit the purpose of this group. Let’s get together socially, knowing we share similar aspirations for our communities and our country!

See all- Soup!Top Soup Yunnan Noodle, Overland Park, KS
I was thinking… What’s a cure for February’s frosty weather, cold-hearted politicians, cold-blooded billionaires, cold calculating co-conspirators, cold shoulders on V-day and cold feet for Super Bowl Sunday? Why, hot soup, of course!
www.topsoupyunnannoodle.com (Top Soup Yunnan Noodle) caught my eye. Anybody know this place? Recently closed for renovations, hopefully re-opening soon. If so, let’s give it a try.
And remember, ... If you don't have a seat at the table ...

February 22 is "Be Humble Day," origin unknown, but incidentally the birthday of Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, who still lives in the house that he purchased in 1958. [https://nationaltoday.com/be-humble-day/] Also, George Washington's birthday (after British colonies' conversion to the Gregorian calendar when GW was about 20 years old.)
Seems like an appropiate holiday for Single Old Liberals to observe because we were ... you know, right ... you know, all along. (Seems as though we ought to be able to find a Jimmy Carter tie-in, too.)
Attendees should use the Event Comments section, below, to suggest places and ways to celebrate, but based on responses so far, I am suggesting Ponak's with an early start to avoid a possibly rowdy "Margarita Day" scene (other than our own.)
Incidentally, the day before, celebrated on the third Friday of February since 2012, is "No One Eats Alone Day," sponsored by Beyond Differences, a non-profit, social welfare organization that aims to inspire school kids to end social isolation, created in the memory of Lili Rachel Smith, who suffered from a facial anomaly and was subjected to social isolation at school prior to her death. [https://nationaltoday.com/no-one-eats-alone-day/] You might see if your own school district has plans for that day.
And the day after is "National Dog Biscuit Day" because, of course, [https://www.rawstory.com/h1-b-visa-2670692676/] .

https://poets.org/poem/archaic-torso-apollo - Intergalactic Pandimensional Towel Day GalaNeeds location
I want to be the first to post this Douglas Adams commemoration on Meetup. I have scheduled our event from sunrise to sunset in our local space-time, but we can tie down more specifics as the date approaches. Just save the date! And wear a towel! (Open to suggestions of venues outside the reach of a short-fingered orange Vogonian and his headless stinkhorns.)

https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/litany/[Just fyi... Billy Collins was Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001-2003.
Paul Neil Milne Johnstone (1952–2004) was a real poet who lived in Redbridge, Essex. Johnstone had attended Brentwood School with Douglas Adams and the two jointly received a prize for English. There Johnstone edited a broadsheet, "the Artsphere Magazine," that included mock reviews by Adams as well as Johnstone's own poetry. Johnstone won an exhibition to study at the University of Cambridge (as did Adams). His name was used by Adams as the author of the worst poetry in the universe in the original radio broadcast, [Adams just taking an opportunity to get one more adolescent dig in at an old friend and rival.] This was changed to Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings for all subsequent versions of Hitchhiker's. Johnstone went on to achieve moderate prominence in the poetry world as an editor and festival organiser, including the 1977 Cambridge Poetry Festival.]
