Spring Creek Canyon is about 10 minutes north of the Kolob entrance to Zion. This is a 5 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain of about 500 feet. There are at least a half-dozen stream crossings, but this time of year there is very little water - some are dry and others have well placed stepping stones so you don't need waterproof foot gear. The high canyon walls are the typically beautiful red limestone that make for wonderful surroundings as you proceed up the canyon. High temperatures might reach the upper 70's or low 80's by the end of the hike and there are many shady spots as well as frequent cool breezes. I'll add photos that were taken Saturday, July 5th. Lots of Indian Paintbrush and a few other flowering plants along the way. We will meet at 8 a.m. and begin the hike about 8:30 so should be finished well before noon. A Class I hike, casual pace, time for photos, rest stops, conversation, get to know your fellow hikers - a fun hike led by volunteer hike leader. Hike at your own risk.
It will be about 20 degrees cooler than St. George, but we'll still have ice cold beverages at the end of the hike! We will meet at the Toquerville exit of I 15 and carpool from there.
Please : Wait until you are fairly certain you can do this hike to sign up for the hike. Don't sign up when you see it listed and then decide later whether to actually participate. Hike will be postponed or cancelled if there are fewer than 3 hikers in addition to the leader who sign up.
