What we’re about
The Queen City Game Club is proud to once again participate in Extra Life! Extra Life is a way for people who love games to give back to their community - in this case, to raise money for Levine Children's Hospital here in Charlotte. Every year, gamers of all types come together to raise money through Extra Life to support their local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat thousands of children each year, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Every dollar raised goes directly to our chosen hospital. Since 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $100 million to help children's hospitals take care of sick and inured kids, across America and around the world.
You can find our Extra Life Team, Charlotte Gamers United, here.
The Queen City Game Club is a 21+ meetup for gamers interested in more complex or strategy driven board games. Traditional strategy games, abstract games, euro games and war games of all kind are welcome. This group will also be a community for local board game designers that are interested in obtaining feedback and looking for playtesting groups.
Our meetup schedule, includes several monthly meetup events, including our popular Beers and Board Games event at the Waldhorn.
Finally, we also look to match up gamers for various ad hoc meetup events. If you are interested in playing a particular game and are just looking for a few other players, you can setup a new meetup indicating the venue and the max number of participants for your game session. We request that you attend at least one public meetup before making a request to host an event at a private residence. Our message boards are also available for making request when looking for members to join in a specific game session.
MEMBERSHIP
We don’t charge for our events, but we welcome your financial support.
For just $25 a year, you’ll become a voting member of QCGC. This gives you the right to vote at the annual meeting to have a say in the future of our club.
Your contribution to the club goes to cover our Meetup Fees, IT expenses (email, PayPal, web domain), administrative costs (corporate and tax filings), and event support (name tags, prizes, and advertising) These funds can also help us add games to our library for our community teaching projects.
You can make a contribution via https://www.paypal.me/QCGC/25 (admin@qcgameclub.com) or by providing cash or a check (made out to Queen City Game Club) to one of the officers at an event.
Thanks for your support!
The first hour of this meetup is for dues paying members only.
We're excited to host our annual members meeting and celebration of the club's anniversary! We'll be meeting on Saturday, April 19th at the Armored Cow. And since it's a birthday of sorts, there will be prizes available to be won.
Annual dues are $25 a year, and will also get you tickets for the prize drawings. The prize list will be added soon! We will also hold a brief meeting to talk about the state of the club, and to elect several seats on the QCGC Board of Directors. Then we'll play games the rest of the afternoon!
Why pay dues?
Our dues are completely voluntary, but your $25 contribution to the club helps us keep the club growing. Meetup Fees cost us about $240 per year. Other IT fees (email, PayPal, web domain) run about $170 per year. We spend $75 to $100 on advertising. And these funds can also help us provide promotional gifts and prize support for our special events, including the Extra Life charity in November, and add games to our library for our community teaching projects.
You can pay your 2025 dues in person at the event or online at:
https://www.paypal.me/QCGC/25
If you paid dues in 2024, you are still eligible to attend and take part in the elections, but no automatic prize tickets are included for last year's members. If you can't remember if you paid, please send a message to Todd or Paul and we will look it up for you.
If you are interested in helping guide the club as a board member, officer, or event host, please fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/fReggdz4YpdrmfkF7
