What we’re about

This group is dedicated to growing a deeper understanding of the Hellenistic philosophy of Stoicism and how to apply this school of thought to modern day life. Other schools of philosophy are always welcome and appreciated for discussion, however Stoicism will be the main focus.

In the spirit of the origin of Stoicism, where they met in the Stoa Poikile and drank wine while discussing philosophy, we shall meet at restaurants, taverns, etc. for some responsible enjoyment and to discuss this fascinating framework for life with like minded individuals.

Embrace Stoicism in Good Company

Welcome to the heart of our community at Students of Stoicism, where ancient philosophy meets modern conversation. Our Local Stoa isn’t just about studying; it’s about living Stoicism through engaging discussions held in the casual, convivial settings of local taverns

What We Do:

  • Tavern Meetups: Inspired by the ancient Stoic tradition of Zeno, who famously taught in the Stoa Poikile of Athens, we gather in taverns to discuss Stoic texts over food and drinks. This setting fosters a relaxed atmosphere that encourages open and spirited conversations.
  • Community and Camaraderie: Join a group of like-minded individuals who are not just fellow students but also friends exploring life's philosophical questions together.
  • Practical Philosophy: Each meetup focuses on real-life applications of Stoic principles, making each lesson tangible and directly applicable to our daily lives.
