Quote from WILLIAM BARTRAM, Colonial naturalist and botanist, commenting on Florida's natural splendor, during his exploration in the pre Revolutionary mid 1700's. He wrote much about Payne's Prairie and has been described as the first naturalist who penetrated the dense tropical forests of Florida.
"Whilst I, continually impelled by a restless spirit of curiosity, in pursuit of new productions of nature, my chief happiness consisted in tracing and admiring the infinite power, majesty, and perfection of the Great Almighty Creator"

Kayaking with Friends from Camp Joy to the Emerald City ;) for at least 2 hours
Camp Joy, 5303 Baptist Camp Rd., Apopka, FL, USHello paddle peeps, if you would like to paddle with me on Sunday, November 9 from Camp Joy, read on...
Let's paddle on Rock Springs for at least 2 hours starting at the kayak/canoe/paddle board launch in Camp Joy. At Camp Joy, we park in a grassy area, and then carry or drag our kayaks a long ways to the launch area. Someone said is feels like 4 football fields so bring your wheels. I am asking you to arrive at the launch at 9:30 a.m. so we can launch at 10 a.m.
After launching, we will paddle downstream for 15 mins or depending on the current (the ranger said people can walk against it no problem), then backtrack/paddle upstream past Camp Joy to the Emerald Cut and beyond, then back to Camp Joy. Note Camp Joy to Emerald and back again is about 2 miles. Restrictions are no alcohol, no pets, no styrofoam, and no glass containers. We can get out of our boats to splash around in hip-deep water at Emerald Cut and use the bathrooms if needed.
Notes:
- There is no charge (confirmed) for those already in the park. However you will still need to register your launch on the day we kayak. Please bring your license and plate number to the office before our launch time.
- I have never been to this place before so I don't know what to expect but I posted in a kayak group and am learning about the trip I've outlined above. Feel free to chime in with your knowledge in the comment area.
I am not a kayak leader but someone who will paddle with you so I'm expecting you to read up on the blog link below, etc., so you know what to expect. You will also know where the launch is before our paddle date. - You should have some recent paddling experience and be able to keep up with us as we will be paddling at a moderate pace upstream at times.
- There are no rentals available on the property. You can always drive to Kingslanding and paddle a rental down to meet us but it's on you to figure that out.
- We have to be out of the camp ground at noon which is why we are starting at 9:30 a.m. I will be packed up before we kayak.
- The image is of around the Emerald Cut which is a free-flowing natural spring that has crystal clear water.
- Here's a link to a blog where you can learn more: https://www.jordanoutside.com/emerald-cut-rock-springs-run-apopka-florida.
Items that you may want to bring: plenty of drinking water (no glass containers), snacks, lunch, hat, sunglasses, camera, sunscreen, bug repellent, closed toe water shoes, PFD and whistle/horn. If you don’t bring wheels, you will wish you did. It's your responsibility to be USCG
