What we’re about
Surrey Young Walkers (SYW) is a friendly walking and hiking group aimed at people in their 20s-40s, based in and around Surrey. We put on a range of walks, from 3-mile gentle rambles to 20-mile strenuous hikes. We have weekends away, across the UK and abroad. We also have social meet-ups, visits to local landmarks and sights as well as live music venues, pubs and other activities.
Whether you are new to walking or an experienced walker who is looking for a group to walk with, you are more than welcome to join us on any of our walks.
We'd love to see you on any of our upcoming walks - just register for a place at https://surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Once More Unto the Breach: Up Against the Meon Massive (9 miles, Circular)Public Car park , East Meon
Please RSVP at our website (green button) and not here, thanks!
Join us for a daring walk through the heart of the Hampshire countryside, starting from the village of East Meon. Our route follows Limekiln Lane, leading to the heights of Butser Hill, the tallest point in the South Downs National Park. From this vantage, we’ll pause to take in the sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, with a café nearby offering the chance for a well-earned refreshment.
The path then loops around to Hyden Hill, where open trails and peaceful wooded areas provide a varied and enjoyable walk. We’ll finish the journey with a gentle descent back into East Meon, where the village pub awaits those wishing to round off the day with a drink or two. This loop is an excellent way to appreciate the rolling hills and quiet charm of the South Downs.
Keep your eyes peeled for any "Hampshire-ites"! A dangerous folk to those from Surrey.

Join me for a night hike from Ripley! We will walk around the edge of Papercourt Lake and then cut through to the Wey Navigation. After that we'll follow the towpath through several locks and along past Newark Priory (bring strong torches if you want to see it!) until we get to Walsham Weir. There we will leave the river and cut back through Ripley Green to the car park (which is a couple of minutes drive from the pub, for those who would like a post-walk drink).
Remember to bring a head torch or other light!

Please RSVP at our website (green button) and not here, thanks!
Please make sure you arrive early to get a parking space as this car park tends to fill up - car sharing recommended if possible.
We will start by heading to Millstream House and do a loop around the Wisley golf course before following the River Wey canal all the way down to Send and then walk alongside Polesdon Lane to get back to Ripley.
Because this is a fairly easy walk, we might have lunch at either Send or we can wait to get back to Ripley.
Make sure you bring appropriate footwear in case it rains and makes it muddy and you are ready for wet weather.
