What we’re about
I am a UX designer working on an app and I have a disability. I'm looking to connect with other designers/developers/entrepreneurs/tech workers who have disabilities. We can talk about our ideas and businesses. Whether you're just starting out or you're already successful, please join and we can work together to help each other succeed. This is a networking group, not a support group. We will be talking about our work, although we may also talk about strategies for getting around certain obstacles (for example, someone may ask about the best speech-to-text software or how to improve their social skills when networking).
I am starting this group because I have been looking for other people in tech with disabilities, but there don't seem to be specific groups for us. I work on projects related to disability and I would like to connect with people in the same field who also have disabilities. I would love to work with other people with disabilities, but I don't know how to find each other. Our experiences may vary, but it would be nice to have a peer group to network with and talk to.
- Who should join your group
Anyone working in tech who also has a disability. You can be a designer, a developer, a business person, a social media manager, etc. The specific disability does not matter. Whether you say you're disabled or have a disability doesn't matter (what works for me might be different for you and that's fine). You don't even have to talk about your disability! It's just to get a peer group going of people who have this in common and work in tech and want to network.
- Any dues or fees you plan to charge members
No dues or fees.
- The group's affiliation, if it's associated with a business or organization
We are not affiliated with any business or organization. I am a '24-'25 Gopen Fellow and I work with people with intellectual disabilities. I have a developmental and mental health disability (It's technically a few different things, but they all come together in how my brain works, so I just refer to it as a general disability.)
