What we’re about
Creative ideas can feel daunting at first, be it writing, acting, singing, , painting, directing...etc. What if you decided not to fight against it, or abandon it? What if you cooperated with the idea to the utmost ability until the work was done? ...Until the creativity unfolded. According to author Julia Cameron; "As we open our creative channel to the creator, many gentle but powerful changes are to be expected" Creativity is a path for the brave, even if you feel resistance or fear.
A course in discovering and recovering your creative self. The Artist Way book is step work that includes morning pages you write first thing in the morning and also go on dates with yourself. It also follows chapters per week. If you stumble upon this after we've begun, you can always join us where we are and catch up on your own. This is a commitment, but the goal is to create an accountability support group to keep the momentum of the course.
Our Approach: Alternating Weekly Format
One week, we'll read a chapter and discuss it during our Saturday meeting. Feel free to highlight or note anything that resonates with you to help spark discussion. At the end of the meeting, you can choose two to four tasks from the chapter to complete during the following week (always welcome to do more!). The next week, we'll come together to share and discuss the completed tasks.
We do it this way to spread out the workload and make it less overwhelming.
Hope to see you there!!
What to expect in the meeting:
- We’ll start with introductions in the chat—share your name and where you’re Zooming in from. 😊
- Next, we’ll do a quick review of the meeting format for new members and share any updates, like feedback or changes.
- Then, we’ll briefly read 3 of Cameron’s guidelines for group shares to set the tone. (basically, let's all be kind).
- After that, we’ll have a gentle accountability check-in for Morning Pages and Artist Dates in the chat.
- Once that’s done, we’ll split into breakout rooms. You can choose between host-led breakout rooms or self-led groups with a prompt (the prompt will include sharing recommendations, the discussion topic, and next week’s assignment). We try to keep the rooms smaller (hopefully, no more than 10 in a room so that there's more opportunity for everyone to share.)
- The meeting will run 30 minutes longer to allow for more sharing. Hosts may leave at the top of the hour, but you’re welcome to stay or even join another room if you’d like!
Entry to the meeting will close at 4:10 pm Central to ensure we create a respectful space for everyone’s shares. Thanks so much for your understanding! 😊

Welcome musicians, writers, actors, dancers, singers, painters...creative Beings. This is Julian Cameron's step journey to get to the "other side" The author refers to the Artist Way, as: "we use the book, not read it." The book is structured with chapters read weekly, but please join whenever this crosses your paths. The Artist Way is for anyone who has thought: "Too late to create, it's just my ego, I'm not good enough, I'll wait until I make more money or retire" etc.
The foundation of the Artist Way is morning journaling, called "morning pages" (i.e. writing 3 pages of whatever is on your mind daily) and also "artist dates" (A date with yourself alone; cook a new recipe, take pictures of nature, paint on a canvas, create a vision board, poems read to yourself, mid-day-matinee, make smores...etc). It is common to postpone creativity within our "things to do" busy lives. The group supports creative visions and shares unfinished projects, dreams, or goals.
Assignments and homework are suggested to witness results within stagnant visions. We gather to share our experiences, discuss chapters, and make connections. We meet once a week. This will help with accountability and consistency. (even if you don't complete assignments, still come. This helps ensure you don't fall off the path).
Come share the creative space at your own pace. Please feel free to start where you have joined the meetup. Our Approach: Alternating Weekly Format -------------------------------------
