What we’re about

The Derbyshire Walkers are all about..

We're a sociable friendly group who enjoy walking in the countryside.
We share our stories, sometimes happy and sometimes sad, and long lasting friendships are made along the way.
The beautiful Peak District gives us wonderful experiences every season, whether it's sunshine or showers, there's beauty in everything.
Why not come along and join us on one of our adventures in our beautiful countryside.. 🏞️

Contribution Towards Meetup Subscription Costs For Organisers and Subsidising Events
From 1st January 2024, the Subscription will recommence with an annual contribution of £10 from all members. This will be paid on joining or renewal, but anyone who is not happy with the group for any reason, can request a full refund after 3 months during their first year.
Finding your happy place is more important..

What To Expect On A Walk
The Derbyshire Walkers is mainly suitable for MODERATE walkers, the pace IS NOT FAST, enjoyment is first and foremost, as well as respecting slower walkers.
Our 4 legged friends 🐕‍🦺🐕 are always welcome on walks, dog owners should act responsibly around livestock and make sure dogs are on leads before gates are opened to cross roads.
We walk all year round so if you find walking in cold wet weather difficult and to avoid waiting miserably for people to set off, best not attend on cold wintery days. Picnic lunches are also on every walk all year round whatever the weather.
We make sure everyone is ok with catching up points and breaks along the way, rain or shine. We don't rush off in front of the group or the Walk Leader, we certainly DON'T leave people behind, it's a supportive environment. For slower walkers, please go at your own pace and don't panic if the group is faster than you. The Walk Leader stops at every turn off for people to catch up, if someone is struggling the group will be told to slow down. There are often 'Pacers' at the front who try to make the pace faster, please be respectful, the Walk Leader sets the pace for the group abilities.
Remember, this is an enjoyable day out where people socialise and enjoy the scenery along the way.
I respectfully expect people to stop when the walk leader is waiting for people to catch up, or during breaks until the group and walk leader are ready to leave. We don't follow anyone who has gone off and left the group, (this has previously happened)
it causes unnecessary worry regarding their welfare and people could end up getting lost causing more problems for the group.
Remember, the Walk Leader wouldn't just go off and leave everyone behind.

*Note: People may leave a walk for emergencies or health reasons anytime, but they MUST INFORM THE WALK LEADER DIRECTLY FIRST

Guests
Members may bring one guest as a +1, after attending 1 group walk, they would request to join as a paying member.

*Note
Only paying members may attend events weekend trips or holidays.

Our Walks
Our walks are every Sunday, mainly in the scenic countryside of the Peak District. The walks are between 8 -12 miles long with varying levels of difficulty.
The walks are always in varied terrain, hills, dales and rocky edges with stunning views and adventurous trails along rivers, through enchanting woodland, and visits to Historical Churches and Villages.
If you're joining a walk, please read the description carefully and make sure you can manage the length and level of difficulty of the walk, if in doubt, please message the Walk Leader before attending the walk.
Dogs are always welcome! 🐾🐾

If you're looking for a fast paced hike getting from A to Z with heads down and no stops along the way, The Derbyshire Walkers isn't for you. Remember there are lots of groups out there for everyone to find their happy place.

Changes And Rescheduling Walks
The Walk Leader has the right to change or reschedule walks for any given reason.
Sometimes at short notice, the walk or route may be changed or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, or if the terrain is unsuitable or weather conditions affect the chosen route. This is especially relevant to walks near rivers or with high descent affected by poor visibility and bad weather conditions.

Social Events
We often go to the pub at the end of a walk, but sometimes we have a pub stop during the walk, usually in summer, depending on time and the weather.
Events Include:
Day or Weekend trips and Walking Holidays, as well as Xmas market and Xmas party events to celebrate the year of friendships.
Coming up in 2024...
Sunrise and Sunset walks, Fancy Dress and walk Challenges, Walking Holidays, Photo Competition and one or two surprises..

Everyone is welcome to join the Derbyshire Walkers no matter who we are and where we are from.
But any offensive or disrespectful behaviour on walks or during any social events will not be tolerated. This includes leaving walks without informing the walk leader and encouraging others to join them.
