What we’re about
An eclectic fellowship and discussion group for the theologically adventurous! The Divinity Club meets regularly to reflect on topics related to mystical theism/theistic mysticism and the contemplative side of religion. Our invitation extends to anyone desiring a richer contemplation of Divinity in theory and practice. We aim to build a welcoming, ecumenical, and dynamic space for exploring matters and mysteries of faith and theology, mind and life, with depth of heart and liberality of intellect, and with a gaze fixed beyond the narrow trappings of religious fundamentalism and secular ideology alike.
The Divinity Club welcomes to the table a variety of perspectives rooted in mystical theism, including: Christian, Jewish, Islamic & Gnostic mysticism, Vedanta & Hindu Dharma, Platonism & theurgy, Hermeticism, esoteric Buddhism, theosophy, etc. Importantly, this is not in the interest of ignoring genuine disagreement (which would be a boring and sterile result), but rather in order to hold our differences in a generous tension, finding joy in common ground and revering each person in their essential relation to God.
Guided by the luminous wisdom of the world's great theologians, sages, saints, and mystics, our discussions may delve into a range of related topics: mysticism & mystical theology; philosophical theology & classical theism; esotericism & metaphysics; tradition, scripture & revelation; history & culture; science, the soul & natural philosophy.
So join us in the spirit of friendship and community, and through wholesome dialogue and fellowship may we support one another on the mystic way of inner experience, while advancing toward ever more credible and profound understandings of life and Divinity. Bring your insights, your big questions and, not least, your sense of adventure!
