What we’re about
The English Café is an online community for expats living and working in the UK.
If you plan to move to the UK in the future, it's a great group for you too!
It's a supportive group where you can practise your English skills and meet new people.
We have meet-ups via Zoom every two weeks. This is your chance to have real conversations, share your experiences and make friends.
There is a conversation topic each week, so you can feel prepared going into the conversations.
It's a friendly and relaxed group. You will benefit from this group if you have an intermediate (B1) speaking level and above.
In the meantime, let's connect on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100082256821055
See you soon :-)

Hello everyone!
Join me on Zoom on TUESDAY 14th January at 7pm (GMT)
This is your chance to meet other expats in the UK, have conversations and practise your speaking skills.
***NOTE - please turn your camera on during the meeting - if you can't turn your camera on, I can't put you in a breakout room.
The English Café is a friendly and non-judgmental space. To maintain this, we need to see who you are, and who we are speaking to.
Thank you for your understanding!
*********************************
PART 1: Introductions
I'll open the meeting and introduce myself.
Next, everyone will have about 1 minute to introduce themselves.
You could say:
- where you're from
- where you live in the UK
- how long you've lived in the UK
- your work
- your hobbies or interests
*If this makes you feel nervous, don't worry! Everyone feels the same the first few times.
Part 2: Breakout rooms
Next, you will have a conversation with one or two other people in a breakout room. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other more.
I'll share some questions about the week's topic to help you. But feel free to ask your own questions.
After 7-10 minutes, I'll change the rooms so you can speak to a different person.
*You'll get to speak to 3 or 4 different people.
Part 3: Finish
We'll come back to the main room and share what we've been chatting about.
I'll close the meeting.
*************************************
This is not an English class, so don't worry about making mistakes!
It's a relaxed and friendly space where you can build your confidence and fluency.......and make new friends!
