What we’re about
This is an after-work hiking group for people interested in chatting about global politics, history, economics, environmentalism or any other major societal issues that you're reading about. We go for easy hikes in the beautiful North Shore Mountains, and the emphasis is on having engaging chats about the wider world, not mundane small chat.
This group is for you if you've read any books around the following topics:
- Anything by Noam Chomsky, such as 'Manufacturing Consent' which highlihgts the incredible media bias in our society
- Climate change and biodiversity loss
- Pop science books reflecting the latest research coming out of any scientific field
- Any history books, especially those by non-western authors
- Books discussing modern life from an anthropoligist perspective, such as 'Civilized to Death' by Christopher Ryan
- Books on economics, including ideas challenging the mainstream such as Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)
- Books on global power structures (again anything by Noam Chomsky)
- Books on Morality and philosophy
- Any other niche non-fiction books that you're dying to chat about
This is a fun and informal meetup group for people who want to meet like-minded folks while getting some fresh air in the beautiful North Shore Mountaints.
Hikes will generally take a couple of hours and be of moderate difficulty.
*Please do not join this group if you are not interested in the topic of conversation and just want to go on an organized hike - this is not the purpose of this group*
