What we’re about
We take philosophy to be the art of pursuing wisdom through reading, discussion, and thought, without resorting to popular trends, blind faith, uninformed emotionalism, traditional authority, or rigid preconceived notions. We will discuss the influential ideas of history, the contemporary issues that may concern us, and the great minds who have contributed to our understanding of our humanity and our place in the world. People of all belief systems are welcome, but this is not the place for dogmatism: all attendees are expected to treat one another with respect and to engage in civil dialogue, no matter how vehemently we may disagree.
Philosophy Group Meeting Structure
First Friday: Book Exchange & Discussion
Title: Philosophy in Pages
Description: Each month on the first Friday, we’ll gather to share and discuss books that have sparked our philosophical curiosity. Bring a book—any book—that you find thought-provoking. Each person will have 5-10 minutes to introduce their book and explain why they chose it. From there, we’ll select one (or more) to discuss in depth as a group. This is an open space to explore ideas, perspectives, and how philosophy is woven into literature, history, and life.
Third Wednesday: Open Topic Discussion
Title: Philosopher’s Forum
Description: The third Wednesday of the month is dedicated to deep discussions on a selected topic. A topic will be posted in advance so everyone can prepare, and the meeting itself will be a free-flowing conversation where we explore different perspectives, challenge ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Whether you’re well-versed in the subject or just want to listen, all are welcome to participate.
