What we’re about

THIS BOOK CLUB AND ITS ORGANIZER, SALLY NOLEN, ARE NOT AFFLIATED WITH NOR ENDORESED BY THE ORGINAL DECATUR WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB. Hello, I'm Sally Nolen, a retired dietitian, health enthusiast, certified Covid contact tracer and published writer, who is founding ladies' literature groups to increase Covid-careful socialization among local women--while enjoying and discussing a good book! Diversity is encouraged as well as women supporting women in friendship!

Any woman who is fully vaccinated and "boosted" per CDC guidance) against Covid is welcome. Meetings will be held at locations in or very close to Decatur and will be Covid-careful (presently to include outside settings). Proof of vaccination status will be required in advance of attending a meeting. Please leave children at home. Although we will be Covid-careful, all social interactions carry some risk of contracting Covid.

Meetings will include a meet and greet" prior to each book review. Discussions will be held over food and drink with member participation and input. Questions about the book read will be given to those who wish to answer. In addition, members will be able to propose books to read by the third month. Books will be limited to a reasonable number of pages.

Book lists will be given in advance so that members have ample time in which to read! Books may be fiction or non-fiction; while a strong and/or interesting heroine always is appreciated, members will decide what they want to read. For any members who want to form their own special genre of book club, they fully will be supported! For our first meeting, I selected the book: The Great Book of Badass Women by Rachel Walsh and Bill O'Neil.

Mutiple groups have been formed in order to help facilitate more women to be able to participate...so plese check for my other groups as I am saying "YES" to all of the women who have indicated interest in my book club. I'll host as many meetings as I can...although other leaders may step forward in the future.

Times may. Lunch, afternoon and "after hours" meetings will be offered. THIS group is for a lunch meeting! It is anticipated that women will need to come and go at different times at this meeting due to work demands. It will be fast-paced in order to help facilitate this.

It is anticipated that meetings will be held monthly with December's meeting being a party. In addition, social outings may be planned for later dates for those who wish to participate. Women stepped up to the plate in 2020 during the Pandemic to help take care of everyone else, and we are ready to find enjoyment and some self-care again!

Please visit this site often as changes may occur! In fact, I have changed the name of this book club to "The Madam of Decatur's Ladies of Literature." There is a story behind the name...and I'll share it with you at our first meeting! This is NOT going to be a boring group! Thank you.
