'The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.'
This April, we'll be turning our attention to the intriguing works of Albert Camus.
In what will be our second longest ramble (approximately 15 km), we'll be meeting at the exit of Chingford Train Station at 11:00, setting off on our walk at 11:15, enjoying a mid-point lunch at the Forest Gate pub, then meandering back through Epping Forest to Chingford Station.
As this is one of our longer walks, I'd strongly advise a) decent footwear, b) a bottle of water or two, and c) blocking a minimum of 6-hours (11:00 - 17:00) out for this!
And this time it's Camus Roulette! Simply read one, or two, or all three of the following texts in advance:
The Myth of Sisyphus (essay)
The Stranger (novel) [also known as the Outsider]
Caligula (play)
Aim to bring along a few of the quotes that most resonate with you, or intrigue you, from the texts.
Our central philosophical theme, of many expected tangents, will be the Absurd.
With any luck, l imagine we'll be having lunch at the Forest Gate at approximately 13:30.
As always, these events are wholeheartedly inclusive, social, and fun.
I'll be contactable via Meetup message if anyone has any Qs or would like to bring a plus-one!
Cheers all,
Ollie
