Please join The Social Sangha for guided meditation, dharma instruction and an introduction to the practice of Tonglen with Paul Linn. Tonglen is a compassion practice first recorded by Atisha Shrijnana (982 CE) and later popularized by Yeshe Dorje (1101 - 1175) and summarized in his Seven Points of Training the Mind. The practice directly interfaces suffering and affliction with compassion and love through breath awareness, intention and imagination / visualization. In Tibetan, tong means "giving or sending" and len means "receiving or accepting". Experientially, in living practice this can be understood and felt as "exchanging self with other". Tonglen compliments and deepens the practices of Metta (loving kindness) and Forgiveness and directly supports insights into the inseparable nature of all beings and life forms.
Inclement Weather Notice: In case of adverse weather conditions that may make it unsafe to drive: Please check our website (thesocialsangha.com) to see if the event has been cancelled.
Danā: Access to community and wisdom should be available to everyone, so all sangha events are offered for free. Following ancient buddhist practice, we collect danā. Danā is a Pali word that denotes a special kind of giving. It means “generosity” or “giving freely.” Danā is a practice of a mutual exchange of generosity and abundance. It develops lovingkindness and compassion, deepens awareness of our interconnectedness and encourages non-attachment. If this kind of giving is available to you, there will be a donation box at this event. One suggested donation is $15. Donations go to support the teachers, The Lodge, and The Social Sangha.
