The Urban-Woods Initiative helps introduce black, indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) to ornithology, hobby birdwatching, and bird-habitat conservation. The organization hosts regular nature/birdwatching walks as well as ornithology research sessions.

For anyone that needs help with transportation we are planning several carpools from North Beacon Hill, Seattle (Near the Light-Rail Station) departing at 8:15 AM. DM me if you need transportation assistance so we can coordinate.**** Some helpful tips for birding in Skagit Valley/Fir Island.
- The drive to Skagit Valley/Fir Island is over an hour from Seattle metro; please plan accordingly.
- Please remember to bring warm clothing (layers, gloves, hat), it gets windy in that area.
- Please bring your Discovery Pass for entry into the sanctuaries or be prepared to pay cash.
The BIPOC Birding Walks are free to join! No registration Required! No experience required! Rain or Shine! If you’ve ever been interested in learning about bird-watching or participating in nature walks, please come join us. Bring your own binoculars if you have a pair. I’ll be bringing a few extra pairs of binoculars and if there is not enough, we can all share. Looking forward to seeing you out there!
