Update:
Park is open sunrise to sunset. After sunset activity is limited to campground areas. I’m not sure how strict they are about this but I really want to do night photography at elephant arch.
Entrance fee is $15/car for non-NV plates. Pets are allowed. Drones are not allowed. There most likely won’t be cell service. Bring walkie talkies if you have them. Also please download offline maps.
There is Ino food inside the park, but there’s a few restaurants in Moapa valley if we are inclined to leave the park and drive an hour round trip.
I don’t see anymore campsites available. If you don’t have a site booked yet please let me know and I’ll see if anyone is able to share. With that said and because it’s a holiday weekend I’m expecting it to be crowded. The photo spots below are very popular.
Tentative plan subject to change:
Saturday- set up camp. Then Elephant arch for sunset, blue hour, and night. Moonrise is at 8:30 pm so we should have 2 hours for night photos unless rangers kick us out. This is a .3 mile hike from the parking area.
Sunday morning - Mouse’s tank road sunrise
Sunday golden hour/sunset at fire wave. This is a 1.5 mile round trip hike partly in sand.
Monday morning - optional sunrise shoot depending on weather.
There are only 5 campsites available in Valley of Fire as of 11/25 7:30pm. It was $55 total per vehicle. Please do not RSVP until you book your campsite or have other lodging planned, and book ASAP. Please check their cancellation policy.
Atlatl Campground has bathrooms with flushing toilets and showers.
Sunrise is at 6:25am and sunset is at 5:19pm. I’ll be shooting both.
It will be upper 30s at night, very cold to camp in. I plan on sleeping in my car.
There will be a little hiking involved. The fire wave is 1.5 miles round trip. Other photo spots don’t involve much hiking.
We’ll meet at the campground. Time is TBD.
Event may be cancelled last minute if weather is not permitting or any other reason.
