This event would allow you to learn about the application of statistical models and predictive analytics in managing and optimizing traffic patterns within smart cities. It will involves discussion on how data from IoT sensors, like those in traffic lights, vehicles, and road infrastructure, can be used to predict congestion, reduce traffic jams, and improve urban mobility.

Bio: Dr. Ronald Mellado Miller is currently a Professor in the Strategic Management and Operations Department of the Woodbury School of Business at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University and has been a visiting scholar with Harris Manchester College, Oxford University. Dr. Miller’s interests have been quite eclectic. He has presented or published research on topics including business, game theory, NGO assessment, neuropsychology, law, evolutionary psychology, and statistical analysis. He has been a consultant for a number of major airlines in the area of safety. His international projects range from NGO work in Ghana, Mexico, India and the Philippines, to statistical consulting in Fiji, China, and Tonga, among others. In each of his consulting projects, his students have participated and gone on to complete graduate programs from universities including Oxford University, Columbia University, and the University of Chicago.

About the speaker:
Carl Luft is the President of TELLUS, an air quality data company specializing in cost-effective sensor networks and solutions that empower Smart City initiatives. Carl has successfully led international growth efforts, expanding into over 20 countries
across various industries.
Carl earned his B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Utah and completed an Executive MBA program there in 2023. With experience in venture capital and entrepreneurship, Carl has worked with early-stage companies to
increase market share and develop innovative products. His recent work includes advancing medical devices for respiratory healthcare, tackling illnesses such as COPD, asthma, and COVID-19. In recognition of his achievements, Carl was awarded
the President’s “E” Award by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce for helping Utah companies expand into foreign markets. Carl’s current focus is driving the adoption of TELLUS technologies within the growing Smart City ecosystem, improving air quality monitoring and data interpretation to create healthier, more sustainable urban environments. Outside of his professional ventures, Carl enjoys an active lifestyle filled with rock
climbing, skiing, dirt biking, camping, and occasionally fixing things that aren’t broken on his Jeep.

The Smart 20 Awards annually recognize the work of global smart cities, honoring the most innovative and influential projects. Enter your smart project starting November 21, 2024 for a chance to bask in the lime light and celebrate with your peers. We will designate three winners at Smart Cites Connect Conference and Expo from the overall awardee pool at the on-site reception in San Antonio, Texas.

Here are some things to keep in mind:
-Strong applicants will represent innovative projects with current or future municipal-scale impact and application.
-Applications should clarify their connection with a municipal or municipal-similar partner such as a county, region, campus, installation, base, or facility complex.
-Applications should feature a project, not a company. In other words, we want to hear about the details of a deployment, not your company mission statement.

Awardees receive one (1) full registration waiver to the spring Smart Cities Connect Conference and Expo and two (2) reception tickets.
