What we’re about
A group for people in Metro Vancouver to play the fun card game Euchre while enjoying a social beverage and/or food of their choice, open to those who know how to play and those who would like to learn. Play is friendly and for fun, not for money.
Euchre is a fun “trick taking” card game commonly played in Australia, Canada (more in the east), New Zealand, Great Britain, and the United States, also popular in the Canadian Military. The previous link is a good place to familiarize one's self for those interested, here's a link to an online game.
There are several variants of Euchre Rules. At our first event it was agreed for this group, to play by the following rules:
Dealing
We’ll deal cards in the simplest manner, 1 card at a time in clockwise order until each player has 5 cards.
Making Trump
- Only the dealer may pick up the turned-up card to make trump.
- We’ll play by “Ontario Rules,” a player who orders up their partner must “Go Alone.”
- The dealer must have at least 1 card of the same suit in their hand in order to pick up and a jack of the same colour as a turned up jack does not qualify as the same suit.
- We will not play “Stick The Dealer” variant where the dealer must name trump if all others pass. Hence if no trump is selected, the hand is discarded & the deal is passed clockwise.
- We won't exchange cards or redeal for “farmer’s” “bottoms,” or “going under,” hands (all or mostly 9’s & 10’s). We’ll play the cards that are dealt.
Scoring
1 point for winning the majority of tricks (3)
2 points for winning all of the tricks
2 points for "Euchring" your opponents
4 points for winning all tricks when going alone

This is the last Euchre Event I'll be Posting on Meetup. After April, I'm moving this group is over to Downtomeet.com. I hope to see you there. Both groups will run in parallel unitl the end of March.
Socialize, relax, and enjoy a night of laughter and camaraderie. Whether you're a seasoned player or looking to learn, all skill levels are welcome!
There are a couple of potentially useful links in the "What we're about" section of the group main page and a listing of rules agreed upon by group members at a previous event.
The venue is a combination Bar One/Denny's Test Kitchen. There is free parking underneath, accessed from the lane behind. There’s a QR code at the entrance to register your license plate number.
We meet on the Bar One Side. Look for the tables with decks of cards on them.
