In Spanish, "Chula Vista" can be translated into "beautiful view". I personally agree, and if you join, you will too.

Check Back Here for UpdatesEvent Summary: This is an one night, overnight camping event. They'll be an optional 2-hour, 3.5 mile round-trip, modest hike, and also a group stargazing activity.
We may see some shooting stars if we are lucky! 🌠 I'll plan this trip again in 2025 with the aim of catching an upcoming meteor shower.

✅Important Checklist Before Going
- 💲Buy a $5 plus shipping parking pass for your vehicle -- you can buy them at the US Forest Service Site https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/r5/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5208699 and https://www.myscenicdrives.com/store/item/forest-passes/southern-california/daily
- 🎫One-night parking passes are also sold at many places for $5 each, no shipping cost. REI in Oxnard and Big 5 in Ventura sell them. Just one pass per vehicle. If buying the pass in person, make sure you get the Southern California pass.
- You can use the link below to find the Chula Vista campsite parking lot.
- ⚠️There is limited cell service at the campground. If possible, pre-download the area map to your Google Maps or Apple Maps to navigate without cell service and if you are going back to town for any missing "comforts". Pre-downloading books and music would be a good idea too.
- 🛑Campground is first come, first serve. To make sure you'll have plenty of space, arrive between 10am-11am. Otherwise you'll have to find a spot that may not be close to the main meetup group.
⏱️Group Itinerary for November 9th, 2024
This is the suggested group schedule, of course you can go off exploring on your own with a friend, short walk, read a book, etc.🫂Then join back up when you are ready. 😁- 10am-11am suggested arrival time. If you are leaving from Ventura then it should take you 2 hours.
- 1pm hike begins: "Mount Pinos Trail to Mount Pinos Peak". Modest hike that should take us only 2 hours to complete. We should be back around 3-4pm.
- 4-9pm the group breaks for separate activities--cook dinner, play games, music, read, enjoy our campfire, s'mores, go for a short walk, etc.
- 🌃9pm-10pm -- stargazing, and more chit-chatting and tomfoolery.
- ⛺10pm (about) -- camp lights out. We don't have to tuck in and sleep at 10pm, but we will turn down music and bright lights to be respectful of other groups at the campground.
Group Itinerary for November 10th, 2024
- 8am-12pm pack up and go home.
✅Important Things to Bring
- Minimum 2 gallons of water per person (1 gallon per person, per day). There's no water at the campground.
- Trash bags -- there's no trash service at the campground, we take everything home.
- Flashlight and extra batteries. Toilet paper and toiletries. I'll have camp lights set up at night, but it will be dark outside our space. The walk from the car to the campsite is short, but rocky and totally dark.
- USB rechargeable flashlights are also really good. If you bring one, I'll have plenty of power for charging devices.
- Camping gear including tent and sleeping bag--OR--you can sleep in your car. A folding chair, camp chair--these are highly recommended.
- Dress in Layers! It may be warm and cold on the same day. Boots or running threads for the hike will help. Bring extra blankets and a jacket. Comfy slippers, wool socks, pajamas, and a hoodie at the end of the day will make a difference in comfort level.
- Food -- snacks, Lunch+Dinner+Extra Meal--or the easy way to do it is buy a few dehydrated meals and just add hot water. I'll have a propane mini camp stove for boiling water, tea, hot chocolate. Don't forget to bring napkins, a spoon and fork! 😁
Updates
I will post updates here and in the event chat below.
See you there! 🥳Update: 9/15/2024
