Artist Jim Militello of Medford New Jersey will share information about his personal background, how & why he became an artist, choice of subject matter and materials, and process for creating his textured/dynamic landscapes.

Artist Bio: I was born and grew up in Brooklyn NY. As a child living in an apartment, I lived for our family’s summer vacation weeks spent upstate in lakeside bungalows, or days fishing on the beaches of Staten Island, being immersed in nature. I am a self-taught artist; that is to say, I have never received any formal training. However, I credit the many generous teachers and great artists that I have learned from by attending workshops or taking online courses. Painting landscapes and nature painting is what I do. My work is inspired by my love (need) to spend time in natural places, i.e. forests, lakes, mountains, bays and beaches. The time spent hiking, camping, or painting is therapeutic and brings me great joy. I paint en plein air whenever possible, sometimes finishing in the studio if needed. I strive to capture a recognizable landscape, but with the goal of conveying the feeling, energy, and life of a scene vs. a photo-realistic rendering.
