What we’re about
Welcome new members to Walk for Fitness & Socials '50s.
This meetup is for those who enjoy a walk along the coast and hill walking in Dublin and Wicklow and surrounding counties.
Most walks will be followed by tea/coffee/lunch where appropriate.
We will meet at the location and time shown at the meetup and we allow ten minutes for latecomers and delays, etc. Walks are mainly 2 - 3 hours total walk time but may be longer during the Summer months.
Meetup events, in general, will have a maximum of 20 people (up to the discretion of the event organizer) with a waitlist for cancellations. Please change your rsvp to no if you cannot go on a walk or meetup, in order to free space for someone else if they want to join in on the walk.
General rules
- RSVP
The walks will get busier as the summer arrives. If you RSVP to attend an outing and then change your mind or can't attend, please change your RSVP to 'NO' at least 24 hours in advance so that someone else can take your place. It's also nice for other members to know who will be attending.
- No Shows:
Any member who continually fails to turn up for events (3 times) that they indicated they would attend will be removed from the group. I'm sure you will understand the need to abide by this rule. It is unfair to book places in restaurants or other businesses and then fail to fill the number of places booked.
- Mutual Respect:
Any member who is causing undue stress or discomfort to another member will not be tolerated and will be deleted from the group. Please contact an organizer if this is happening to any member.
Walks will require a maximum of 4 people to go ahead.
Normally a note will be posted on the meetup if the walk is canceled due to heavy rain, so keep a check on emails if you have rsvp to go on the walk.
The walks can vary from midweek to weekends. If you have signed up for multiple walks on the same day, please remove your name from the events you will not be attending.
Tea/Coffee/Lunch
We can decide as a group after the walk, for tea/coffee or lunch.
Pace of Walks
All our walks are for the normal/medium-pace walker. Good footwear is needed, warm clothing, rainwear, and also bring a drink/snack with you on the walks.
Car Parking
Any new members who are attending a meetup who are not familiar with the area and are driving please ensure that you are aware of the parking restrictions. Most of the dart stations have parking for 4 euros all day.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING INSURANCE PLEASE READ
Insurance: Please note, all activities are taken at your own risk, and the organizer has no responsibility for any injuries or damage.
Membership of the 'Mountaineering Council of Ireland' provides insurance for walkers; please click below for details of the charges.
http://www.mountaineering.ie/membersandclubs/Membershipfees_and_Benefits/default.aspx
Health & Safety: Events are organized with H&S in mind (max numbers, no unsafe venues/destinations, etc.), however, each member attends events at their own risk.
The group does not have Accidental Insurance cover for members going on walks and members are responsible for their own safety and they attend all meet-ups at their own risk.
If a member has any health issues they must ensure that they have their Doctors permission to take part and health issues must be declared to the walk organizer when they join as some of the walks may not be suitable for their fitness level, i.e. Mountains, Cliffs or Howth loop walks, where there may be a bit of a climb or the walks are more strenuous. The flat walks would probably be more suitable for them.
By signing up to this meet-up group and attending the walks you acknowledge that you accept responsibility for your own safety at all meet-ups.
Any new ideas for walks are welcome.
Walks will include mountains/hills and walking trails such as:
All Dublin/Wicklow (and other counties) mountains and trails
Cliff Walk Bray to Greystones
Bray Head walk
Seapoint to Dun Laoghaire including East Pier Sandycove and on to Dalkey
Killruddery Park and Market Bray
Killiney Hill
Clontarf to Dollymount
Malahide to Portmarnock
Howth walk
Big and Little Sugar Loaf
I hope you enjoy the meetup and any new suggestions for walks, or meetups are welcome.
Thank you.
