What we’re about
WMC Canyoneering Organizers use this meetup.com group for event participation management (the "going" list, the "waitlist", the "Not Going" list) and for easy event communications (notifications, comments, emails).
Historically the WMC used this meetup group to make perspective WMC members aware that the WMC was much more than a hiking, climbing, biking, ... organization. Since April 2020 it has been used exclusively by the WMC Canyoneers. Hence to revive the original perspective we've created the new meetup.com group Discover the Wasatch Mountain Club, and we encourage you to join it, and the WMC.
https://www.wasatchmountainclub.org is the official website for the WMC. To see this month's activities visit the WMC Activity Calendar. The WMC is for individuals interested in safely participating in outdoor activities, wilderness preservation across the Wasatch Mountains and beyond, and socializing with other like minded individuals. It was incorporated in 1920 and is now 100 years old!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- THE SWELLTBD, Salt Lake City, UT
We currently have one leader and could use one more. In the meantime, we are dropping our group size to 6 plus the leader and organizer. Participants must complete EL training or equivalent to demonstrate basic canyoneering competencies. See the WMC main Meetup page for a full schedule of free and paid workshops, classes, and practice sessions.
Schedule is as follows:
1:00pm Friday: Double Arch, meet directly at canyon trailhead promptly at 1 (see beta for directions). If you can't make it, meet us Friday evening at the campsite.
Saturday: Lower Eardley
Sunday: Zero G
All three canyons are 3B with potholes; you may want a wetsuit if it's a cool or cloudy weekend. Otherwise bring the regular gear for canyons. Zero G involves stemming and downclimbs that may be difficult to some- READ THE BETA for all three canyons and assess your own skills before RSVPing. These are not guided trips and you are responsible for your safety.Double Arch: https://www.roadtripryan.com/go/t/utah/san-rafael-swell/double-arch-canyon
Lower Eardley: https://www.roadtripryan.com/go/t/utah/san-rafael-swell/eardley

The trailhead requires some clearance so we will need help shuttling any participants who do not have capable vehicles. This is a dispersed campsite without facilities. Please be prepared to pack out all trash including solid human waste (WAG bag or toilet setup). Taco potluck Saturday night for those who want to participate.
