What we’re about
Often with book clubs, lots of people sign up and then drop out when they realise they won't have time to read the book. This club is different, as the stories that we choose should take no longer than an hour to read.
Every meeting, we will discuss a different short story by a different author. If you want to read more, then great — short stories often come in collections — but the discussion will focus on a chosen story each meeting. The group is free to join, and it’s hosted online via videoconferencing.
When you sign up, we will ask you a question or two to make sure you are a decent human being, and not a bot. By joining, you agree to the following:
1. If I RSVP then I will turn up, or I’ll let you know my plans have changed by changing my RSVP to 'No'.
2. If I am transphobic, homophobic, sexist, ableist, racist, ... I will keep my hate to myself.
3. I will not message group members privately if I don't know them: it's creepy.
4. I will not use online meetings to indecently expose myself. (Shouldn't need saying, and yet...)
5. I will express my views honestly but with kindness and consideration for the views of others.
(Rosaura's message: “I am going to be hands off from now on. I took over with the best intentions, but it has proved too much. Chet has taken over and he will be organising, leading and hosting the meetings.”)
