Weekend Hikers and Beyond, WeHike.org, is a volunteer-led group passionate about hiking in SLO County and the Central Coast of California. In spite of our name, we host day hikes on weekends and weekdays at varying skill levels.

Join the Weekend Hikers and Beyond group for an invigorating morning adventure in the Oceano Dunes. Come share our love for wilderness hiking, outdoor fitness, and exploring the natural environment. Hike leader Hether and expert Dune hiker, Mike Cody, will get your cardiovascular systems revved up by climbing 14-15 sand dunes (you may also opt to walk around them). Shoes are optional.

What to bring: water, sunscreen, shoes or boots to wear out to the dunes, extra clothing in case it's chilly.

Whether you enjoy weekday hikes or weekend adventures, this event is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for the outdoors. Please note that heavy fog or extreme wind might cancel the event for safety reasons, so stay tuned for updates. Come and join us for a fantastic weekend of hiking, socializing, and creating lasting memories in nature!

Islay Hill Trail, San Luis Obispo, CA
Join us as we hike to the top and back of Islay Hill.

Islay Hill Summit Trail is a short, steep climb in San Luis Obispo. Hiking to the top usually takes 20–30 minutes. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy sweeping views of downtown SLO and Edna Valley from the summit before returning by the same trail. Parts of the route are rugged, so bring sturdy footwear.

Where: Trailhead at the end of Sweetbay Lane (see Meetup map)

Pace: Casual

Terrain: Moderately steep with a few rugged parts

Distance: 2 miles out and back, elevation gain about 500’

Sunset Sunday 6pm Sharp!

We will meet at the picnic tables next to the parking lot between Fin's Restaurant and the Pismo State Beach Golf Course at the end of Grand Avenue in Grover Beach. This will be a fast paced loop, around 3 1/2 miles, over a variety of terrains. Depending on the tide, you may need to make a water crossing on the beach.

Time: 6pm Sharp!

Where: 25 W Grand Ave, Grover Beach, CA 93433

Distance: around 3 1/2 miles

Pace: perky😃

Elevation Gain: minimal

Wear: Shoes that you don't mind getting wet in case of a water crossing. We will also stop for those that want to take off their shoes and go barefoot.

Bring: Layers, depending on the weather conditions and water.

Miossi Open Space, San Luis Obispo, CA
Hello hikers! Join us for an evening hike to we mark the autumnal equinox with our quarterly sunset hike. Our route will follow a loop at the Panorama and Rollercoaster trails at Miossi Open Space Preserve and return after dusk. We should finish the hike after sunset, so bring a flashlight or headlamp.

🚘 Park at the south end of Old Stagecoach Road, not at the top of the grade.
🌧️ Rain or adverse trail conditions will cancel this hike.
🍔 Possible dinner afterwards, to be discussed at the hike.

Terrain: Mostly single dirt trail, one Jeep road, some steep sections

Distance: 4 miles out & back, about 850’ elevation gain
