Weekend Hikers and Beyond, [WeHike.org](https://wehike.org), is a volunteer-led group passionate about hiking in SLO County and the Central Coast of California. In spite of our name, we host day hikes on weekends and weekdays at varying skill levels.

Hello hikers! The Tri-tip Challenge is a local tradition in which participants take on three local trails in one day. This year we’re doing a variation of Bishop Peak, Cerro San Luis, and Islay Hill.
Although we’ll talk about the specifics at the first trailhead, the general plan is:
8:30am at Bishop Peak
- 3.8 miles out and back, 1200’ gain
- Start at the Patricia Drive trailhead
- Summit trail out & back
Noon at Cerro San Luis (a.k.a. Mt Madonna)
- 3.9 miles out and back, 1050’ gain
- Start at the Fernandez Lane trailhead
- Jeep trail out & back
- “Trail mix pot luck” lunch at the summit
3pm Islay Hill
- 1.75 miles out and back, 520’ gain
- Start at the Sweetbay Lane trailhead
- Summit trail out & back
Dinner afterwards

What you’ll need to participate
- Do it! Commit to hiking all three peaks
- Transportation: Discuss driving and carpooling in the comments
- Lunch: for the trail, optionally extra to share with your fellow hikers

Heya hikers, join us as we enjoy a casual coastal walk at Montaña de Oro State Park just before sunset. We plan to follow the bluffs trail — an easy gravel road — from Spooner’s Cove to the Point Buchon junction and back. Bring water, sun protection, and jacket.
Optionally, those who feel hungry or thirsty after the walk can join us for dinner at Beerwood, 690 Santa Maria Ave, Baywood-Los Osos, CA 93402.
Rain cancels this event, but we can always hope.

LOCATION & TIME CHANGE!
Due to the attendance limit out on the Point Buchon property, I've decided to change the location. and time Please don't forget to carpool!
Some of us are meeting at the Ralph's parking lot in Los Osos at 1:30pm. I'll be in my bright blue Honda hatchback.Super beautiful bloom hike! Come ready to take tons of pics. Fields of flowers collide with the ocean and magnificent rock formations jet out from the waves! Point Buchon Trail offers some of the most scenic views of the Central Coast coastline, perfectly preserved and protected. The trail is a 6.6 mile round trip hike located on the northern end of PG&E property and is accessed through Montaña de Oro State Park. This scenic coastal trail has been open to the public since 2007 and is known for its panoramic views of beautiful headlands and off-shore sea stacks.
The trail is mostly flat with a few small hills but the distance is about 5 miles so please be ready.

The mosquitoes and ticks are out in abundance so please be prepared.
Because we will be on PG&E land everybody must sign the waiver before and after entering the property. Also be aware that trailblazing on and through the flower beds will not be tolerated.
We will meet at the sign in/ ranger station. Parking is just outside the property but can be very limited so carpooling is encouraged.

Join us as we hike to the top and back of Islay Hill.
Islay Hill Summit Trail is a short, steep climb in San Luis Obispo. Hiking to the top usually takes 20–30 minutes. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy sweeping views of downtown SLO and Edna Valley from the summit before returning by the same trail. Parts of the route are rugged, so bring sturdy footwear.
