Come join us for a deeper look into the principles of improvisation in a safe, comfortable environment.
These Sunday workshops are meant for those who wish to explore beyond "Yes, and" and other basic principles of the artform. If you are looking for a great way to introduce yourself to improv, the Monday meetups at Mcnail-Riley house would be a better option as this will be more advanced. HOWEVER! If you are brave and want to jump in, feel free to join us!
Through both short form games and long formats, we will mainly work on honing such skills as;
- C.R.O.W. - Which stands for Character Relationship Objective and Where.
Character - Who are you? What makes a good character?
Relationship - Who are you to the others in the scene or game? How can we establish that and capitalize on it?
Objective - What are you doing? Why? How do we use that to best effect?
Where - Where are you? How do we establish that with space work and physicality?
These are the foundation for great scene work.
- "The game within the game" - What is the idea/theme/etc that drives the scene or game? How can we find it quickly and use it throughout?
- Performance skills such as projection, stage positioning etc.
- And other tips and tricks of the trade.
The focus will be on scene work as it applies to a lot of short form games as well as long form, but we will also do some non-scene games to help us with the ideas listed above.
This is not a class.
Feedback, discussion and ideas will be shared throughout the workshop. I will be giving my ideas, but these are just my ideas as an experienced improviser. Imput and perspectives are encouraged by all attending!
The $10 charge is to cover costs for the space and other group costs. That can be paid with cash or through Venmo or Paypal at time of workshop.
Wear comfortable clothing, and bring your laughter, thoughts, and energy!
Let's go!
