This is a group about reconnecting with nature. Even if we’re living in an urban or suburban setting we can still get out into nature. The Tampa Bay region offers a lot of opportunities through parks, trails and more to get out in nature. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or just wanting to reconnect with your roots, join us for some fun adventures!

Take MAR is a local non-profit with a mission to regenerate our environment and communities. This volunteer opportunity on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 through Take MAR may interest Wild Roots members.
Join TakeMAR and Jabil as we plant 1,000 Longleaf Pine trees at Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve! Volunteers will also plant 485 native shrubs, wildflowers, and ground cover plants.
This is a large planting effort with around 150+ volunteers to help accomplish the mission.
This event will require moderate to heavy lifting by volunteers to transport the plants to their appropriate area. We ask that anyone aged 14 and under be accompanied at all times by an adult or guardian at least 18 years old.
The volunteers will meet at the ranger station the morning of the event and be driven into the preserve from the parking area by County vehicles, as it is not an area easily accessible by foot.
Volunteers are encouraged to enjoy the 10,000-acre preserve post-event and connect with the environment we are helping to restore!
Close-toed shoes are required. All necessary planting materials will be provided on-site.
This is a wild nature preserve, so we ask all volunteers to be as cautious as possible during the project.
Suggested Items to Bring:
- Reusable water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Sunhat
- Gloves if preferred - we will provide gloves on site as well
- Smiles!
